A two-dollar raise often translates into only a one-dollar increase in disposable income, the same increase that would result from saving a single dollar.

The Wealthy Barber, page 168

I like this way of thinking when I’m buying something on sale, buying generic foods at the grocery store, or haggling a price with a street vendor. This is one of the very valuable nuggets of wisdom in this easy to read personal finance book, and I highly recommend it to absolutely everyone.

UPDATE: I continue to consider the possibilities of this concept. If one decreases their rent by $200/month, it’s equal to a $4800 salary increase. Big stuff.
