Book Recommendation: The Wealthy Barber
(don’t judge this one by it’s awful cover)
An absolute must-read on basic personal finance, even if you hate books about personal finance. It illuminates important concepts through a story of three individuals talking with their local barber who has been successful with his financial life.
My favorite tips are on paying yourself first to build savings (10% of everything you make), and being frugal overall instead of stressing about budgeting. I also found it interesting to learn that I don’t need life insurance anytime soon, since I don’t have anyone relying on me, but that creating a will is important even though my net worth is still small.
Available at Amazon used for as little as 13 cents, or from the library for 0 cents (or if you are nice to books, you can borrow my copy).
(Also worth noting, I learned of this book when CR gave it to me for my birthday shortly after we met. Friends thought it was a weird gift, but it couldn’t have been more perfect, considering how crazy I am about managing my finances.)
