I’m so excited to manage this contest at Carnegie Hall this week—please enter and share it with everyone you know! You could win two tickets to the concert and after-party.
Innovation of the day: Crowdsourcing the locations of NYC’s bikeshare program. You can suggest to NYC DOT where to locate the new bike sharing kiosks! The program will have over 10,000 bikes with 600 stations. The second image shows the GIS results from a total FTW geek-out by cartographer/blogger Steven Romalewski.
!!
This is insane(ly amazing), and I can’t even image what it cost.
Very sweet!
Improv Everywhere’s latest mission asked people in Union Square to “Say Something Nice”. I wonder if they had to edit out any mean ones.
Proposal in the park
- Union Square guy with one tooth: Let's me and you get married, how 'bout that?
- Me: Sorry, I'm already married.
- USGWOT: But I'll cook for ya; does he cook? I'll bet he doesn't cook.
- Me: He does cook, actually.
- USGWOT: Yeah, but I'm a certified cook AND I'm Italian. I'll bet your skinny guy doesn't have that!
Adopt-A-Building on the Queens Museum Panorama
I love this as a way to support the care for this NYC treasure. It looks like adopting an apartment is a $50 donation, and you get the title deed for the mini apartment (you can also get a deed if you are the Mayor of the museum on FourSquare, which is another great idea).
Last time we saw it, we also sadly saw a pencil and pen on it, so I like the idea of supporting its maintenance.

CR, want to get our first apartment together on the UWS?
Shifting less than one day per week’s worth of calories from red meat and dairy products to chicken, fish, eggs, or a vegetable-based diet achieves more greenhouse gas reduction than buying all locally sourced food.

Cop Allegedly Threatened To Ticket Cyclist For Wearing A Skirt (Gothamist)
Wow, I missed this article last weekend. Pretty ridiculous. I have noticed that every time I am wearing a skirt on a bike and am stopped at a stoplight, the vast majority of men blatantly stare to see what they might see (spoiler alert: bike shorts). Maybe the people ogling women to the point that they are threats to public safety should be getting more tickets.
UPDATE: There’s an official “skirts on bikes” ride on June 30th.
