Our neighborhood is really shaping up—Natty Garden moved across the street to a bigger location last week that is much more official.

Washington Avenue Prospect Heights Association’s Street Beautification Committee is calling for volunteers to help build tree guards and plant flowers on the first two Saturdays in June. Click through for more info, or sign up to volunteer here.

These are my kinds of people; too bad there isn’t something similar on my street! After leading my block association in the UWS and seeing how political these groups can get, however, flying solo is not a bad way to do it…I’ve designated myself a one-person team that manages the tree pits, litter, and weeds along my entire side of the block. No community board meetings necessary.

Today’s big adventure: Lowe’s garden department.

Our yard is in bloom, and so is the tree pit down the block that my dad helped me adopt last fall. Last year at this time it was full of broken glass, tshirts, and bottles, now it’s just tulips and dog poop. Not too shabby.
